#110 Jesus Rescued Me From a Cult - Janet D.

Janet was a brand-new Christian who joined a group of young people who also claimed to follow Jesus and live in Christian community. But when she discovered they would not let her leave, Janet grew confused… until Jesus provided a way of escape.

Janet fell to her knees at the front of the church, her heart pounding.

“Oh, Jesus, please… I just want to be saved…”

The pastor lifted a hand over the congregation and those kneeling at the front, and began to pray,

“Lord, we thank you for these souls here today, who have come forward to give their lives to you…”

Suddenly, Janet heard something behind her; she opened her eyes and glanced back over her shoulder.

Her heart dropped to her stomach.

“Oh no…”

Glen and his sister had just stepped through the doors of the church, and were now pushing their way through the congregants down the aisle.

Janet locked eyes with Glen, and his hard gaze struck her with terror.

She twisted back to face the front, her breath quickening in her throat as she stared down at the worn red carpet between her trembling hands.

“I’ve done nothing wrong… I’m just at church, why wouldn't they want me to be here?”

Janet felt a rough hand grip her shoulder.

“Glen,” she whispered, still facing forward and trying to control her shaky breath, “What are you—I’m just—”

She looked up to see Glen standing over her, with his sister Maria on her other side.

“Janet,” Glen said, in a low voice that sent chills down her spine,  “We’re getting you out of here…Now.”

Janet didn’t move, looking from Glen’s stony eyes to the pastor, still praying over the congregation.

“Glen, I don’t understand why…”

Maria clenched Janet’s arm, her nails digging into Janet’s skin. She bent over and murmured,

“What have we told you, over and over? These people, church… they aren’t the Way, Janet. We are the only Way. You have no hope without us.”

Glen wrapped his fingers around Janet’s forearm, and she looked up at him.

“I–I just…”

Tears of hopelessness filled her eyes.

Glen silently forced Janet to her feet, and he and Maria turned and walked her back down the aisle.

Janet hung her head, tears blurring the concerned faces of some of the congregants as she passed. Glen pressed his mouth against her ear, his breath hot as he hissed,

“Don’t cry, Janet… you’re with me. Right where God wants you to be.”

A tear streaked down Janet’s face and plopped on the floor, as Glen and Maria pushed her out the church doors and into the parking lot.

Listen now to Janet’s true story of rescue & redemption!
