#114 My Drunk Driving Killed a Girl. Could God Forgive? - Brittini Guerrero
Brittini Guerrero was a highly-motivated young woman who excelled in college and was planning to launch her own business. The world was at her fingertips, until one fateful night, when Brittini made a terrible choice that would change the rest of her life.
Could God forgive the unforgivable?
Brittini groaned, eyes still closed. Shifting slightly, she winced as cold metal and shattered glass pricked against her cheek.
“Am I… am I dead?”
Grimacing, she painfully cracked her eyes open.
Slowly, she blinked away tears and blurry shapes started to form; something very large and white obscured her vision. Airbags. Around the edges she caught a glimpse of red taillights and white headlights of other cars on the highway, harsh against the black night sky.
She lay in her mangled car, on its side on the concrete off-ramp.
Wincing, Brittini reached up with a shaking hand and wiped the blood trickling from her nose.
Covered in glass from her shattered windshield, Brittini felt her seatbelt cutting into her side, and an airbag pressed against her from the front.
“Wha—what happened?”
The seconds seemed to pass like hours; Brittini watched in a daze as cars screeched to a stop on the ramp and figures jumped out, silhouetted against the dim streetlights.
Brittini’s head pounded horribly, and she moaned as she fumbled with her seatbelt buckle.
“I must have been drinking…”
In a flash, everything from the evening came flooding back.
Going out for drinks with her coworker after their shift… getting a text from her boyfriend “meet me at my house”… pulling out of the parking lot, eyes heavy… blinding headlights, a deafening crash, shrieking metal… everything going dark…
She pressed an airbag down, and gasped, her gut wrenching at what she saw — across the ramp a pickup truck lay twisted against the guardrail. The front hood was crushed and shredded and the windshield smashed beyond recognition. Hard as she blinked, Brittini couldn’t make out if there were figures slumped inside.
Her whole body throbbed, but inside Brittini felt a chill.
“What have I done…?”
